Car News:Confirmed: Hyundai Equus Coming To America
Article Summary:
Article Content:

The Hyundai Equus, the largest and most expensive vehicle built by Hyundai Motors, will be sold in the US market beginning late 2010. Successful stateside testing of the sedan this summer means that the Equus will supplant the Genesis as the automaker’s flagship model in the American market.
Â
Fresh off of successfully introducing its premium Genesis sedan and sporty Genesis coupe, Hyundai Motors is planning to turn everything up a notch by introducing its largest sedan, the Hyundai Equus, to the US market. Hyundai has been testing the sedan in the US all summer to gauge dealer and customer reaction, deciding that the market for the Equus is favorable, thus its planned introduction. Hyundai expects to begin shipment of the sedan late next year.
Dealers, Customers Show Strong Interest
Hyundai first introduced the Equus to American consumers at this year’s New York International Auto Show (NYAIS) and claims that visitor reaction to the sedan was highly favorable. Soon thereafter, Hyundai decided to import one hundred copies of the big sedan to the US market for testing. The automaker says that the Equus was well received, a model that many expect will compete against the BMW 7-Series while priced thousands of dollars less than its German competitor.
The Hyundai Equus shares the same rear wheel drive platform that underpins the successful Genesis sedan. Stretched by 4.3 inches, the larger Equus offers a more limousine look and room than the Genesis, though it will likely also be powered by the same 4.6L V8 offered optionally in the Genesis.
Moving On Up In Sales, Visibility
Hyundai Motors recently passed the Ford Motor Company to take over fourth place in the number of vehicles sold globally. Hyundai is the fastest growing automaker in the world and is expanding at a rapid pace in the United States, China and in select emerging markets including India.
Though Toyota, General Motors and Volkswagen are locked in a heated battle for top honors, Hyundai’s goal is eventually to become the top selling car maker in the world. Based on its current line up, upcoming Equus and price advantage, Hyundai’s reach for the number one spot may soon be well within their grasp.
